1979 Co. - Handmade in the heart of Indianapolis
The Sabbra Cadabra Corssbody Tote is currently sold out but I couldn’t help but share this beautiful black on black creation.
As we continue the week of leather worker posts, I want to introduce 1979 Co. Established in 2018 out of the apartment where owner Nate resided, it moved in 2020 to its own location in the historic Irvington neighborhood on the east side of Indianapolis.
Like all leather companies that will be featured, Nate has a dedication to quality materials and construction techniques that will ensure that his products will last for generations if taken care of properly. 1979 Co. uses primarily vegetable-tanned leather but is always able to give you the specific materials on each product. All items are hand sewn using a saddle stitch technique that is known for its strength and beauty.
The Damage Wallet is a unique design that is perfect for the minimalist that prefers to carry a little cash along with cards.
While ordering leathers that have been dyed by the manufacturers is common, Nate does a lot of dying in his shop, enabling him to create leather colors that you will not find elsewhere. It also reduces his reliance on distributors having specific leathers in stock so you can get what you want without delays. In addition to dying, Nate also uses tooling techniques to add interest to his items.
1979 Co. carries a large assortment of bags, wallets, and belts. Bags and wallets are available for online purchase but belts are often best purchased in person so the fit can be guaranteed for you. Give 1979 Co. and follow on Instagram, check out their webpage (below), and if you’re ever in the Irvington area, make sure you stop by the store to check things out.
The Wanderer is a crossbody that has card pockets built in with plenty of room for all of your essentials.
