Apple Girl Art - repurposing racing components

So much detail!!!

This is such a neat way to display our country’s flag wherever you want it to be seen.

As an Indianapolis native, motorsports has always occupied a little of my life, at least in May. As the home of the most well known racing event, the Indy 500, it is difficult to not get a little excited with the build up that occurs for this amazing event that draws hundreds of thousands of people to the west side of Indianapolis each year.

While most Indy natives would mention a small connection to motorsports, there are those, such as Katie Buttera, who is much more involved. Katie is the owner of Apple Girl Art and specializes in taking racing components that are no longer needed and turning them into compelling pieces of art, jewelry, and functional pieces.

Such a neat piece! Rings come in all different sizes and are a statement piece you can take with you anywhere!

In the racing scene, components have a very limited life span. Due to tight tolerances and the success of the team on the line (in addition to driver and spectator safety), components are regularly swapped out and are not able to be used again. Finding new and interesting ways to reuse these components allows race fans to have a physical connection to motorsports, even during the gloomy days of winter and early spring as May is being anticipated.

Some of our favorite pieces from Apple Girl Art include the business card holder, Ol’ Glory, and the wrench ring. In addition to the items that are always available, custom pieces can be ordered, past pieces that include trophies, man cave centerpieces, and custom art. Purchases can be made directly from the Apple Girl Art website (link below) and can be seen on Instagram.
