Laura Gutzwiller - Felting by Laura

Day 3 of 2D week and I took a little liberty with my feature today. Laura is a felt artist from the Valparaiso, Indiana area and makes a lot of different things but the focus seems to be on 2 dimensional work, which is why I chose to feature her here.

Using felt, Laura produces captivating scenes, primarily focused on nature scenes. The material provides some relief which is increased through her use of layering and Laura will occasionally make the art extend in front of the picture matting, really making it pop out from the wall. I particularly enjoy the scenes that Laura makes with water as well as night skies.

Laura desires to push the boundaries of fiber art and, in doing so, has received many awards from the top art fairs around the Midwest. Receiving so many awards is very rare for any artist and goes to show how skilled and creative Laura is with felt, a material that not many artists are currently working with.
