Marret Metzger Studio - Make Art Part of Your Daily Routine

When was the last time you elevated your morning coffee or tea routine? Or had a piece of artwork to contain your wine? Uninspiring mugs and glasses are the norm when it comes to consuming beverages. From free giveaways to cheap mugs with knockoff phrases on them, we know we could do better but the search can be tough. For us, it took meeting the right person and our routine was on the path to a great change.

We first met Marret Metzger at a market in Indianapolis in the summer of 2022. We were immediately struck by her pottery that was way different from anything we had seen before. While the nature themes certainly spoke to us, the technique to obtain these amazing drawings was something we had never heard of. Sgraffito is a technique where images are scratched into a surface that has been treated with a dark underglaze to reveal the original clay color underneath, and the results (as you can see in the pictures) are breathtaking.
