Sav J. Art - connection and sustainability

Sav J Art’s floral vase. I could try to name the variety of flower but I would be wrong…

This week, we decided to feature ceramic artists! Indianapolis has a very strong ceramic artist scene that we have been fortunate to become acquainted with over the past five years and today, we are thrilled to feature one of those artists.

Sav J. Art is ceramic studio that was founded by Savannah Jacob. Savannah studied drawing and illustration at Herron School of Art and Design, graduating with her bachelors degree in fine art, and uses that training in her ceramic work. The attention to detail on the carvings is spectacular and Savannah’s creativity for new products will always present something new in her booth for you to discover, no matter how many times you’ve seen her booth before.

One of Sav J Art’s one-off pieces. The attention to detail is astonishing! I was able to see it in person hours before it sold in Indianapolis last year.

While we could continue to write about Savannah’s art and her designs, it would be short-sighted to not discuss what drives her work. Building connection is something that Savannah strives for her work to cultivate. Community connection clearly means a lot to Savannah based on her social media posts and activity in her community, both in the ceramics realm and her physical neighborhood. Being linked to the ceramics community through events and spending time in her physical neighborhood picking up litter (using the plastic bags that contain her clay when it is shipped to her) are some of the ways that Savannah works to build connection to her communities.

Some of our favorite items in Sav J. Art’s booth include her strawberry mugs, corn mugs, and floral vases. Savannah will also take on projects such as the vase shown above that is a one-off design. Acquiring one of these pieces will require you act quickly as they become available. The best way to keep up with current work is to follow her on Instagram @savijjacob. You can find her work in her booth at art fairs around the midwest as well as a handful of shops in the Indianapolis area which are shown on her website (link below).

Nothing says you’re from Indiana more than drinking coffee from your very own hand-made corn mug!
