K.M. Pottery - Chicago-based ceramics artist

A stein like this will make even the best beer taste just a little better

Day two of Ceramics Week here at Shop Different and we wanted to feature an artist we met in Chicago last year. K.M. Pottery was displaying her work at Lake View East Art Fair and we were blown away by how different her products were from others that we have seen around.

There are many different ways that ceramic artists create their pieces and they all create something different. The wood firing method employed by K.M. Pottery was new to me (the artist uses many firing methods, this is just the one that caught my eye) and creates some amazing texture and color variations in the glaze.

K.M. Pottery’s Small Twisted Vessel is thrown on a wheel before having the shape manipulated, carved, and spray glazed to end up with this beautiful piece.

While I typically lean towards the functional side of ceramics and purchased a wood fired beer stein (similar to the one at the top of this article) at the art fair, K.M. Pottery makes other items as well. On the business website, you will find ornamental work, functional work, and woodfire/raku categories to check out, all with amazing pieces that would make an amazing addition to any art collection.

While the stein, and other woodfire items caught my eye, the other work seen both in person and on the website is equally impressive. You will find vases, vessels, carved pieces, platters, and of course, mugs and steins. With the wide array of work available, you are sure to find something that will complement your current collection.

As always, we encourage you to check out the K.M. Pottery website and heading over to Instagram to give a follow to keep up with the latest creations coming out of the studio.

A blue/black combination always draws my eye!
