Amanda Pennington - Indianapolis based ceramic artist and studio co-owner
How about starting your day with a coffee from a beautiful piece of art?
Day three of Ceramics Week is here and we wanted to feature our friend Amanda Pennington. We first met Amanda at an arts and crafts show called Plant Stop Won’t Stop in downtown Indianapolis back in late 2022. Her style had us making the first of several purchases we have made since then.
Amanda is a graduate of Western Kentucky University where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in ceramics. She also spent time both during her time in college and the years that followed graduation working with the ceramics community as a technician and education assistant with different organizations. Currently, in addition to creating her signature style of ceramic vessels, Amanda is the co-owner of Yellow Door Ceramics Studio, an Indianapolis-based ceramics studio that offers classes and private events.
This vase from Amanda perfectly displays her style and precision
I would describe Amanda’s work as an artistic mid-century style. Bold, sharp colors and very precise sections make Amanda’s style stick out among other ceramic artists and contribute to her signature style that has drawn us in. The ability to add to a matching set of ceramic pieces is also appreciated as we now own a cup, a coffee mug, and a lidded coffee bean storage container all in the same style.
Yellow Door Ceramics Studio, as previously mentioned, is located in Indianapolis and offers many courses. There are multiple ways to take classes from one-day workshops, to 8-week courses to take a more in-depth look into ceramics. There are also private events available that are great for small (11 people or less) gatherings. Information about these courses can be found at the Yellow Door Ceramics website below. Also make sure you check out Amanda’s website and Instagram.
