Dara Schuman Ceramics - pushing the structural limits on ceramics

Wrapping up Ceramics Week with an artist that we met in Chicago this past December. Dara Schuman is a Chicago-based ceramicist and, like the other ceramic artists we have featured, has a style that is all her own. While at the show in Chicago, a neighbor purchased a mug from Dara and provided directions so we could find her booth to purchase one ourselves.

Dara strives to push the limits on what clay can do while honoring traditional wheel-thrown techniques. She posts videos of her process on her Instagram page which shows some of the steps to creating her pieces. As a casual observer, I can promise that it isn’t easy work and the planning and experience to make her art is a skill that few possess.

One challenge to obtaining a mug from Dara is that they sell out so fast. Of course, work is reserved for in-person art fairs and markets so keeping tabs on where she will be is probably the best way to secure some of her work. She will also do drops on her website and has, in the past, opened the website up to email subscribers before anyone else is able to access it. Signing up for her email marketing is available on her home page which is linked below.

We encourage you to check out Dara’s website, her previous work, and subscribe to her email list to stay in the loop on what she is working on. We think you will be as impressed as we were when we first laid eyes on her amazing creations.
