One of the things we commonly hear when encouraging people to shop local for their needs is that it is impossible to find essential items that you need. We fully admit that we have yet to discover a local, handmade, toilet paper manufacturer so the point isn’t lost on us. However, many things that you think would require a trip to a big box store are available from local makers and, as you would guess if we are featuring them, the quality will exceed anything you will find in those big box stores whether they are a physical location of online.

Our featured maker today offers both essentials and non-essential items alike. Washcloths, towels, and scarves are among the offerings that are essential while you can also pick up pieces of art, home decor, and even jewelry from the shop. Chelcie founded Elytra Textiles back in 2013 and recently began operating under the name of Loomi Shop. She hand weaves all of her pieces using a wooden floor loom and uses all natural fiber, primarily cotton.

And of course, we can’t forget the stockings and eye pillows that she had when we saw her this past fall at markets.
